Backuping the hoster’s data

April 5th, 2008 by Samuel Becks

This is a very important moment for you. Normally, under bekapom hosts understand two things:

  • installed in the server drives in the plural included via raid controller;
  • all your data once a day are archived and stored on a separate disk (single server).

If the provider has raid, it is wonderful. Mean these things, with the right approach to the case, that all your data is not stored on a single hard disk, but at least two. And if one of the disks ordered to live long, it will not be a problem. The provider simply changed the defective disc and the work will continue. Ideally, you would not even notice, and learn about, not because raid arrays imply “hot” shift discs.

If your host is not only a raid, but also makes a copy of your site, it’s just wonderful. In case you accidentally deleted my site, or some well learn your password (as a rule is either to the host than to be much easier to steal passwords from the user) and broken site, you can ask your host to restore data from CVS. But keep in mind: if you notice that your site does not, spusty month, another provider, you do not help. Typically, the archives are stored only in the past week.

In any case, whatever your backup is not kept host, always keep a copy of your site hosting. Any happens. If no technical difficulty of the hosting arise because, as they say, piano fall on the server.

Choosing hosting company: large or small?

April 5th, 2008 by Samuel Becks

There are several points in this choice.

If your host is “young and hot”, all the teething problems you are going to face together. This downtime and servers for a few days to several (not episodic, but such strong downtime). But on the other hand, you can make some important concessions for you. I module, which ask, and even put some important software for you. Yes, and the cost of services are most likely to be lower than in large or medium companies.

If this is a large company, that in general, there plus minus one client here - they are not afraid. Your voice in which case, surely, will not be heard. But the quality of service tends to be higher, it is true, and the relevant requirements of customers. If you ask - “but I put such a module, it is likely to receive a waiver. All will be well under the time limit.

As in any case, most find their middle solution - that hosting, where you will be important as a client. True, this is not the only occasion to feel the client and keep appropriately. In the middle of all good.

Traffic on your hosting

April 5th, 2008 by Samuel Becks

Traffic - The number of transmitted information to one side or another, that is, from your site or to your site. Speaking hosts - traffic is inbound and outbound. Now hosts write on their sites that traffic in your tariff plan:

  • not limited to (conditionally, but is silent about it)
  • restricted any number of gigabytes per month

In fact, traffic is not unlimited in nature. This is an axiom. Under unlimited host can understand that the standard client consumes no more than 10 Gigabytes outgoing traffic per month. Provided that your site - this is not a collection of music in the mp3 format or something like that. Either limit the customer on other grounds, such as the consumption of CPU time and simultaneously running applications. The most limiting worst option, when it hosts “traps” to feed her indecently small values. Or does disables channel to the west. Then, it is possible that your already mentioned earlier, a neighbour outside wall of your site will be open for a long time or did not see. What’s strange, such options are found so far.

In another case, the provider does not limit you innocent, he neatly exposes you account for anti-excess traffic rules. Normally this before 1 USD for the outgoing gigabytes. Expensive, the good, need not be so. Note that there are hosts who swear that traffic is not restricted, however, is taking place a couple of months and if you have a large attendance, you will be politely asked to pay for the traffic, at best, or simply turn off the silence.

Therefore, if you have a major project, always ask your provider how unlimited bandwidth and how much it will cost in excess of the quota.
